‘The Great Chingis-Khan’
This tattoo was worn by A convict named Dorzhap, and drawn by the artist V. Makushkin, both men were sentanced together for fighting with six Russian Old Believers, who called them ‘yellow-faced monkeys who have only just lost your tails’ and ‘slanty-eyes’. As they both skilled in martial arts, they easily dealt with the name-callers.
They were sentenced to five years imprisonment for hooliganism.
Interesting that “Khan” is spelled хан (Russian) rather than хаан (Mongolian). I wonder where Dorzhap was from? Buryatia, maybe? The Buryats are a Mongol people living in Siberia.
